Liz Feld, a mother of three and a native of Westchester County, is a candidate for the New York State Senate in the 37th District (Briarcliff Manor, Ossining, Chappaqua, New Castle, North Castle, Port Chester, White Plains, Rye, Rye Brook, Harrison, Mamaroneck, Larchmont, Scarsdale, and New Rochelle).
Ms. Feld, 47, a moderate, independent-minded Republican, currently serves as Mayor of the Village of Larchmont, a position to which she was first elected in 2006 as a coalition candidate. She campaigned for mayor on a smart-government platform of fiscal responsibility; greater efficiency in municipal services by sharing resources with neighboring towns; employing public-private partnerships to meet local needs, and demanding a fair share of funding from state and county government. She was overwhelmingly re-elected mayor in 2008. Prior to becoming mayor, Ms. Feld served as Larchmont’s Deputy Mayor (2003-2006) and as a Village Trustee (2002).
Mayor Feld is running for State Senate to give Westchester a fresh and effective new voice in state government. She believes that soaring property tax rates, disproportionately-low school aid, and legislative gridlock can only be addressed by electing a new generation of reform-minded leaders to state government-leaders willing to leave partisanship at the door in order to achieve consensus.
In her two terms as mayor, Ms. Feld has restored the Village surplus to $2 million; led a $4.5 million public/private park renovation that includes a synthetic turf field, waterfront environmental trail, picnic areas and other enhancements; spearheaded flood mitigation efforts and infrastructure improvements; and secured $4 million in grants from outside funding sources for her constituents.
Mayor Feld has devoted much of her life to public policy. In September 1999, she helped launch the Million Mom March, a national grass-roots organization established to promote sensible gun control legislation. She also founded and served as executive director of LAUNCH, a citizens action group established to revitalize a Westchester County business district. She has served as Senior Vice President of Communications for Nickelodeon, Director of News Information at ABC News, as a public affairs specialist at the White House Office of Management and Budget, and a press officer in the Vice President’s office during the Reagan Administration.
Ms. Feld holds a B.A. degree in Government and Political Theory from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. (1982).
She is married to Joel Feld and has three children, Alex (20), K. C. (18), and Matthew (12).
